Whether you're referring to a rare venue of "rest &relaxation" or contemplating a wonder-filled evening of "reign & revival," you must without reservation witness this brand new "inspirational" jazz phenomenon--"R&R "--lead by the incomparable, multi-talented collaboration of Howard Riley, Jr. on soprano, alto & tenor sax, and Terrence Richburg on 7-string bass, keyboards & the list goes on. Their music exceeds the traditional level of the inspirational jazz experience, while crossing boundaries and breaking down walls of musical classification.
R&R is a group born out of the depths of inspiration and made possible through a special blend of creative talents and commitment. They bring to the forefront a commanding, innovative sound of jazz, inspirational and gospel flavors--with a sense of tenacity pressing their way onto the music scene empowered by pure faith and passion.
Riley and Richburg have worked together for many years in other groups and on special projects and productions--being sought after for their individual expertise and reputation as "first chair" musicians. But only as they began to work together at various events and venues as a duet group did it dawn on them to pursue a true partnership together to produce CD projects and live performances as R&R under Terrence's independent record label, RICHESCAPE MUSIC.
Their debut CD, "Ascension" has taken Riley and Richburg along with their fans into heavenly places dwelling with God--the Creator of their inner song. Terrence took his own advice, stepped out on faith and following the Lord's leading produced "Ascension," seeing it unfold as a flower into an incredible revelation. The response from listeners of the project has ranged from sheer enjoyment and excitement to "this is an incredible album," to "I just couldn't stop listening to it--I played it all night long!"
Now with their sophomore project cued for release in 2011, R&R is preparing to drop their upcoming CD, " Completion". Featuring stellar performances individually and collectively by both Richburg and Riley on 7-string bass and sax, the upcoming project will find Richburg expanding this CD's scope on several musical fronts and levels within the R&B jazz, fusion jazz and gospel/inspirational jazz genres.
For instance they include some odd meter and heightened Latin style performances and powerful grooves, while still delivering heart-crafted vocal and instrumental ballads written by Terrence, which are destined to become popular classics for years to come. R&R is also enlisting the help of some of their closest friends to share in the "Completion" experience by performing some live studio cuts already featured as part of their shows (with band members, Patrick Cooper on keys, Jay Jones on drums, Leon Alexander (Howard's cousin) on drums and percussion, and others). "Completion" will also feature the smooth vocal and arranging talents of John Stoddart, and the vocal anointing and worship ministry of Vanessa R. Williams. Other artist greats are expected to join the featured line-up as the project moves towards "Completion." "Completion" will really showcase R&R's full-range flexibility and legitimacy as jazz and gospel writers and musicians, and still lay down that last, in your face, monstrous groove for mainstream R&B and Smooth Jazz lovers to really feel and enjoy at the spiritual level. There is also an R&R Christmas project in the works and on the horizon of RichEscape's plans for 2011 releases.
Howard is an incredible musician and saxophonist, as well as writer, keyboardist and vocalist in his own right.
